Sarah and Jerry have been married for five years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they decided to have children and so they purposely constructed an extraordinarily dynamic social life.
The major difficulty, it needs to be emphasized, is that just about everything they do to have fun somehow includes drinking. For instance, all of the dinner engagements, sporting events, happy hours, family get-togethers, and parties with friends they spend time at are associated with drinking.
Sarah and Jerry Start to Observe Some Definite Alcohol Related Problems That are Associated With Their Abusive Drinking
If they were sporadic drinkers, this wouldn’t be a big deal. Because they drink in a hazardous manner, however, they are beginning to see some apparent alcohol-related problems in their lives.
For instance, just two weeks ago Jerry was arrested for a third DUI and has been taking time off from work due to alcohol-related health problems. What is more, Jerry’s last three performance assessments at work have been less than passable and he has started to forget what he says or does while he drinks. As a final point, Jerry has been having sleep-related problems and his family has begun to show concern about his drinking circumstances.
Similar to Jerry's circumstances, Sarah has been feeling dejected about life in general and to deal with this, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past seven months. Moreover, Sarah has been experiencing quite a few headaches and suffering from awful hangovers after drinking. Finally, Sarah has been feeling notably less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late every Monday, and she has been getting some relatively strong criticism from her coworkers, relatives, family members, and friends about her heavy drinking.

A Truthful Chat About Drinking Circumstances Brings to Light Alcohol Related Employment, Relationship, Financial, Legal, and Health Problems
After watching the television program, Jerry and Sarah arrived at a decision to have a straightforward talk about their drinking activities. They both concurred that most, if not all, of their social pursuits included drinking, that they were drinking excessively, and that as a married couple, they were starting to observe alcohol related relationship, health, employment, legal, and financial problems for the first time in their lives.
With thoughts of the TV program still fresh in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcoholism signs they have been exhibiting could be a signal that they are dependent on alcohol or perhaps becoming dependent on alcohol. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s question and so he suggested that they schedule an appointment with one of the doctors at the local substance abuse rehab facility to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking problems.
Focusing On Your Drinking Problems May Reduce Your Trepidation and Give You A Degree of Peacefulness
Ironically, even though their drinking circumstances hadn’t yet changed, it was obvious that Jerry and Sarah were at least attending to their drinking problems, they were eager to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in learning how they could notably cut down the severity or get rid of the alcohol-related issues that had started to worsen.
A Bolstered Sense of Commitment and Communication
When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that evening, they arrived at a decision that the next morning, Jerry would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse rehab center located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to cope with the drinking difficulties that had cropped up in their lives, they actually had the most refreshing night’s sleep they could bring to mind in the last five weeks.
Just before he fell asleep, Jerry turned to Sarah and commented how easy it is to lessen one’s sense of dread and truly experience some serenity by dealing with one’s problems with conviction and making up one's mind to do something constructive about them. Isn't it fantastic how one's communication and commitment improve and how a relationship can be enhanced when issues are confronted rather than ignoring them?
