Marriage Proposals Made Easy
As you've decided to turn a deaf ear on Dr. Samuel Johnson's admonition to a young man contemplating marriage (“Don't!”), you are now going to have to figure out how to pop the question. There is one basic rule for you to follow for an unforgettable proposal – originality is king while throwing a ton of money at it will spoil it!
Excellent proposal ideas will come from remembering the things she loves to do, and especially the things you both love doing together. If you both love horse riding, use that as your basis for the proposal, if you like Chinese food, looks like you're eating out when you propose. The key is to make it original, sincere and from you personally.
At the Movies
Many couples still enjoy going to the movies together and it is inexpensive to rent some ad space in the opening session for you to broadcast your proposal. Plenty of local businesses simply rent a brief slot to place up their banner ad and you can do the same for close to nothing.
Wait for the reel to run and see her reaction – if she runs screaming for the exit, you can take that as a “No!”, otherwise be prepared for a lifetime of her stealing your popcorn and telling you to be quiet when you're munching on hard candy.
At the Restaurant
Choosing her (and hopefully your) favorite restaurant has been a common setting for many a knee-bending proposal. While it is popular, there are some things you can do to up the originality based on the type of restaurant you frequent.
Chinese restaurants can arrange for a specially printed fortune cookie with your proposal inside it (with the ring). Almost any restaurant can arrange for a glass of champagne to be served with the engagement ring sitting in it (but make sure she doesn't drink the ring too). For places where they have video or TV playing (and there are plenty), set it up for them to play a video featuring you with the proposal out to the restaurant and she'll be taken by surprise.
At the Big Game
If you're fans of sports, almost every venue in the country can accommodate a marriage proposal in front of the crowd. Instead of simply having the announcement made over the speaker system, have her called out from the crowd during the pre-match or half-time interval on the pretext of winning a random draw of ticket holders – obviously the “prize” will be you and your proposal.
Issue a “Love Ticket”
Ask your local law enforcement agency for some help – have them pull her over on the pretext she's too beautiful to be driving as a single woman and issue her with a “love ticket”. You explain to the officer that you have a way of making her “legal” by offering to marry her!
On the Plane
Plan a weekend getaway and on the plane have the captain make the announcement over the intercom. You can celebrate the engagement with a great weekend but be careful, the oxygen piped around the aircraft will be thinner than at ground level – fainting is a real possibility!
