Not Everyone Gets Divorced
Television and the media seem to report every day about a celebrity couple breaking up after a brief marriage. People are inundated with articles about the terrible state of marriage in the United States. But is it really true that everyone gets divorced? Is it true that all of our kids are the product of broken marriages?
In 2005 the divorce rate in the United States had fallen to 3point6 per 1000 people. From an all-time high of 4.7 per 1000 persons in 1990, this was deemed the lowest ever since 1970. In America 63% of children are growing with both biological parents in 2005.
At this time marriage rate has come down to 7.8 per 1000 people in 2004 to 7.5 per 1000 people in 2005. The married ones account for 59 percent whereas the divorced constitute 10 percent. When you get married you have a 82 percent chance of making 5 years, 65 percent chance of making 10 years and a 52 percent chance of lasting 15 years.
What do these statistics really mean? While it is true that there are many children living in broken homes, it is not a majority of the children in the United States. It is however the lowest percentage of any industrialized country and not an acceptable number.
Amazingly enough, the statistics show a vast percentage of marriages that last at least 5 years. Couples are likely to work at making the marriage a success. They believe in their oaths deeply, which is glue enough to keep them together. And more people are staying together than have in recent history.
The legal term of "No Fault divorce" was introduced in the late 1960's. On it’s introduction, some individuals used this new idea to their own benefit. It was treated like fad which makes more popular. Now it has become part of the main stream and is not just used because of its popularity.
So the statistics show us that not every marriage in the United States fails. There are lots of happily married couples in this country. Marriage is not just an officially signed license. This is not a binding force for the couple. A true marriage is in a person's mind, body and soul. That is not as easy to break up as it is to tear up the sheet of paper that signified two persons union. Perhaps this is why a large portion of the population is unmarried.
People no longer marry hurriedly and prefer to wait and watch before their marriage. Since they are waiting till they are older they are possibly spending more time with their future mate before they get married. This is where two souls should act as a single mind in two bodies. Their marriage will be successful and not be the failure statistics of marriage.
