Saturday Is A Slow Pleasant Day
Sitting up in bed, he shook himself awake. He had a strange dream about giant bees chasing him around the yard. He ran and dodged them, but they stayed right behind him. They were fast, but never were able to catch up to him and sting him. What a strange dream he thought as the buzzing sound continued.
As he woke up to full alert status, he realized it wasn't a dream, the sound was right outside his bedroom window. Now it makes sense he mused. His dad was using his new mcculloch chainsaw that he bought Wednesday night at the hardware store. They had gone together to buy it and stopped for custard on the way home.He was stoked to use it and today was his first chance.
Smelling pancakes, he went down to the kitchen for breakfast. His mom gave him a plate full and some syrup. He wondered if he had chores to do. If he did, he'd go through them fast. He was going to play baseball with some friends of his this afternoon. He finished up the last pancake.
His mom asked him how early dad went out to use his new homelite chainsaw. He told her he didn't know and that they had bought the other one since both were good quality. But he bought the one on sale. Now the trees on their property were all getting a trim today. He wondered why they hadn't talked about what brand he bought.
After breakfast he sat around telling his mom about school and how much homework he had for later. Mrs. Markson is a real heavy hitter when it comes to homework assignments he told her. He planned to read some this weekend too. Maybe watch a movie later after playing basketball.
He went back upstairs to his comfortably cluttered bedroom. Tossing his pajamas up on his twin loft bed, he put on some jeans and a sweatshirt. He walked out in the yard to see how the trees were coming along.
He walked down to where his dad was working. The trees look good, he told him. This was his father's idea of fun. He loved to use the mccullogh chainsaw and ride his lawn mower on weekends. This may be his idea of fun but his son hoped he'd have better things to do when he grew up.
