Signs of an abusive partner can manifest itself in verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. Here are some signs to look for to see if you are in an abusive relationship:
Punishment - If an abusive partner doesn't get what he wants, he could be abuse you emotionally by punishing you. He may be quiet with you, emotionally distant, critical of you, or may withhold sex.
Mood Swings - An abusive person can be aggressive and angry one minute, then apologetic right after being abusive.
Manipulative - Your partner doesn't take responsibility for his cations and blames you instead. He sees himself as the victim and tries to guilt you for his own shortcomings.
Jealousy - In a relationship, some jealously is normal, but sometimes it can go over the top. An abusive person becomes jealous of other people in your life, like your friends and family and may try to isolate you from them.
Control - An abusive partner may want control over the relationship. Someone who is abusive will be angry if he sees any signs of independence or strength.
Not open to searching for help. Someone who is abusive might think things are normal and probably won't want help. He might not want to admit that it's his fault and all that is happening is outside his realm of control.
Abusive men will place the blame and guilt on their partners for making them the way they are while continuing to be abusive. Remember in a relationship that is abusive, its something your partner has to deal with and its not your fault. You need to protect yourself from being further degraded by leaving. Your partner might attempt to reach out to you, promising to make changes and asking for your forgiveness, but do not go back.
