Traditional Wedding Vows
Apart from Traditional Wedding Vows, there are other types of weddings that you may consider while in Australia. You have the option going for civil, faith-based or wedding celebrant marriage.
In civil marriage, you are required to approach a state attorney and explain your wish to get married to your identified spouse. Like in other commonwealth countries, your wish will be put up on a public marriage notification board. Any one with objection to your marriage will have the chance to register the same. In case there is no objection, two witnesses will be needed, two from your clan and two from your spouse’s clan. The ceremony lasts a few hours after which you are issued with a marriage certificate upon payment of a certain fee.
You may opt for faith-based wedding and depending on your faith, your religious leader will asses the marriage. However, not all religious leaders are recognized as marriage celebrants and you need to confirm if your religious leader is approved to conduct wedding ceremonies. In case he/she is accepted, you are obliged to pay a certain fees before your wedding is conducted. You will be issued with a marriage certificate thereafter.
You also have the option of using wedding celebrant services. These are properly trained and certified individuals who conduct marriage and wedding celebrations at a fee. Apart from conducting wedding ceremonies, they also organise wedding celebrations. Compared to other forms of weddings, their services can be expensive.
If you opt for Traditional Wedding Vows, your marriage and wedding ceremony will be conducted by community traditional leaders. Even though not trained as wedding celebrants, the community leaders are recognised under Australian marriage and wedding laws as such. Traditional weddings can be exciting and fun. This is because unlike the other kinds of weddings where only a several people witness your ceremony, whole communities are involved in Traditional Wedding Vows. Like in other traditional weddings in other jurisdictions, you are oblige to receive different traditional gifts from community members.
Unlike in the other types of weddings, you will not be issued with a marriage certificate under traditional wedding. Both your community and that of your spouse are witnesses to your wedding and that is recognised in law as a properly conducted wedding. However, you have the option of acquiring a marriage certificate from a state attorney. Unlike in the other types of weddings, you will not be required to pay for any fees in Traditional Wedding Vows.
